Childhood friends are amazing, they are heroes, rocks, accomplices, bad influences, and I love mine dearly. According to the National Day Calendar, June 8 is Best Friends Day. As much as I would love to spend the day with my dearest friends, they all live out of state, (which helps with the physical distancing at least).
In celebration of friends,
check out these books featuring friendship:
"When the dean of Lovegood Junior College for Girls decides to pair Feron Hood with Merry Jellicoe as roommates in 1958, she has no way of knowing the far-reaching consequences of the match. Feron, who has narrowly escaped fro a dark past, instantly takes to Merry and her composed personality. Surrounded by the traditions and four-story Doric columns of Lovegood, the girls--and their friendship--begin to thrive. But underneath their fierce friendship is a stronger, stranger bond, one composed of secrets, rivalry, and influence-- with neither of them able to predict that Merry is about to lose everything she grew up taking for granted, and that their time together will be cut short. Ten years later, Feron and Mary haven't spoken since college. Life has led them into vastly different worlds. But as Feron says, once someone is inside your "reference aura," she stays there forever. And when each woman finds herself in need of the other's essence, that spark--that remarkable affinity, unbroken by time--between them is reignited, and their lives begin to shift as a result." --Provided by publisher.

"Kyuri is a heartbreakingly beautiful woman with a hard-won job at a 'room salon,' an exclusive bar where she entertains businessmen while they drink. Though she prides herself on her cold, clear-eyed approach to life, an impulsive mistake with a client may come to threaten her livelihood. Her roommate, Miho, is a talented artist who grew up in an orphanage but won a scholarship to study art in New York. Returning to Korea after college, she finds herself in a precarious relationship with the super-wealthy heir to one of Korea's biggest companies. Down the hall in their apartment building lives Ara, a hairstylist for whom two preoccupations sustain her: an obsession with a boy-band pop star and a best friend who is saving up for the extreme plastic surgery that is commonplace. And Wonna, one floor below, is a newlywed trying to get pregnant with a child that she and her husband have no idea how they can afford to raise and educate in the cutthroat economy. Together, their stories tell a gripping take that's seemingly unfamiliar, yet unmistakably universal in the way that their tentative friendships may have to be their saving grace." --Provided by Publisher
"An unlikely friendship between a curmudgeonly old man and a desperate young woman delivers a funny and uplifting message about the power of human connection and how it's never too late to be the person you wanted to be. Eighty-eight-year-old Duffy Sinclair wants the last leg of his bachelor life to be strictly predictable, so Centennial Assisted Living is perfect: low-sodium meals, off-key sing-alongs, and the company of his best pal and roommate, Carl. It may not sound like much, but compared to the piss-smelling, roach-infested nursing home down the road, Centennial is paradise. There's only one problem: Carl's estranged granddaughter, Josie has just clambered through their bedroom window. Though she claims its a well-intentioned visit, her bare feet and black eye say otherwise. Carl begs Duffy to let her stay -- she's all that's left of his family. But hiding her means risking eviction, and Duffy would rather die than move, just like he would rather die than fall off the wagon again. That's why when he sniffs out Josie's alcoholic tendencies, he has no choice but to go against Carl's wishes and chase her off. But before Duffy knows it, Josie's heartfelt plight has won him over, and he finds himself risking everything he has left to save his newfound family and discover what it really means to live. --Provided by publisher.

"Six years after the fight that ended their friendship, Daphne Berg is shocked when Drue Cavanaugh walks back into her life, looking as lovely and successful as ever, with a massive favor to ask. Daphne hasn't spoken one word to Drue in all this time -- she doesn't even hate-follow her ex-best friend on social media--so when Drue asks if she will be her maid-of-honor at the society wedding of the summer, Daphne is rightfully speechless. Drue was always the one who had everything-- except the ability to hold onto friends. Meanwhile, Daphne's no longer the same self-effacing sidekick she was back in high school. She's built a life that she loves, including a growing career as a plus-size Instagram influencer. Letting glamorous, seductive Drue back into her life is risky, but it comes with an invitation to spend a weekend in a waterfront Cape Cod mansion. When Drue bags and pleads and dangles the prospect of cute singly guys, Daphne finds herself powerless as ever to resist her friend's siren song. A sparkling novel about the complexities of female relationships, the pitfalls of living out loud and online, and the resilience of the human heart, Big Summer is a witty, moving story about family, friendship, and figuring out what matters most." --Amazon.com
