From Kindergarten all the way through my Senior year, I attended a private school. We were in the upper echelons of choir competitions for size, only because every single person in the high school was in the choir, about 50-55 kids. We weren't fools; a week off school for a fine arts competition sealed the deal for all of us.
I left high school having spent 4 years in the choir (13 years of choir total), 3 1/2 years playing handbells, (and I miss my bells terribly), 2 school plays, 1 humorous interpretation, 2 acting scenes, 1 dramatic interpretation, a vocal solo, and choral groups. I would have done more but my grades for algebra worked against me. If I gained anything from high school it was a love for the arts.
