In the years after World War II, music was evolving from big-band jazz into rock 'n' roll--and these louder styles demanded revolutionary instruments. When Leo Fender's tiny firm marketed the first solid-body electric guitar, the Esquire, musicians immediately saw its appeal. Not to be out-maneuvered, Gibson, the largest guitar manufacturer, raced to build a competitive product. The company designed an "axe" that would make Fender's Esquire look cheap and convinced Les Paul--whose endorsement Leo Fender had sought--to put his name on it. Thus was born the guitar world's most heated rivalry: Gibson versus Fender, Les versus Leo.


While Fender was a quiet, half-blind, self-taught radio repairman, Paul was a brilliant but headstrong pop star and guitarist who spent years toying with new musical technologies. Dark Academia 2023-09-21


Take an academic setting of a prestigious or exclusive nature.  One that boasts Greek or Gothic Architecture.  Be sure to fill it with leather-bound tomes of classical literature as well as the poetry of the Romantics such as Lord Byron and Percy Shelley. The atmospheric goal should be a combination of Sherlock Holmes, Edgar Allan Poe, and Harry Potter.  Toss in some characters who seek out learning for the sake of learning, with what may be a romanticized obsession with history and literature. These characters could be as loyal as they are dishonest, and as impulsive as they are cunning.  The "in-group" typically will draw people's attention but exude a sense of mysteriousness  The main character, however, is generally, not quite like the rest. They may have a background and social status that differs from in-crowd.   For flavor, sprinkle in some crime, perhaps a murder, add some secrets, maybe a bit of blackmail and betrayal, forbidden knowledge, and maybe even a bit of a 'god' complex of a Frankensteinian nature.  Once mixed you will find you have the makings of what is considered Dark Academia.

National Hispanic Heritage Month.



National Hispanic Heritage Month begins on September 15. This marks the anniversary of El Salvador, Guatemala, Costa Ric, Nicaragua, and Honduras gaining their Independence from Spain in 1821.  Mexico and Chile celebrate their Independence on September 16th and 18th.  National Hispanic Heritage Month lasts through October 15th.    For more information, you can check out these sites:
