Outlander Day June 1st

On her website, dianagabaldon.com, Diana Gabaldon, talks about how the Outlander series started "by accident." With the 9th novel set to be released in November and season 6 in the works to air later this year, this series has grown by leaps and bounds, (ew.com and netflixlife.com). Outlander was first published June 1, 1991, making this year the 30th anniversary of what must be one of Gabaldon's happiest "accidents."

The year is 1945. Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient stone circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly, she is a Sassenach -- an "outlander"--In a Scotland torn by war and raiding Highland clans in the year of our Lord ... 1743. Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire is catapulted into intrigues and dangers that may threaten her life ... and shatter her heart. For here she meets James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, and becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire ... and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

To the delight of her many fans, Gabaldon presents the first of a captivating new trilogy featuring Lord John Grey, one of the most fascinating and engaging characters to emerge from her bestselling Outlander saga. On a clear morning in mid-June, Lord John emerges from London's Beefsteak Club, his mind in turmoil. A nobleman and a high-ranking officer in His Majesty's army. Grey has just witnessed something shocking. But his efforts to avoid a scandal that might destroy his family are interrupted by something still more urgent. The crown appoints him to investigate the brutal murder of a comrade in arms who may have been a traitor.

A captivating return to the world Diana Gabaldon created in her Outlander and Lord John series, The Scottish Prisoner is a masterpiece of epic history, wicked deceit, and scores that can only be settled in blood.

London, 1760. For Jamie Fraser, paroled prisoner-of-war, life is coming apart at the seams. In the remote Lake District, where he's close enough to the son he cannot claim as his own, Jamie's quiet existence is interrupted first by dreams of his lost wife, then by the appearance of an erstwhile comrade still fighting to rally the Irish. But Jamie has sworn off politics, fighting, and war. Until Lord John Grey shows up with a summons that will take him away from everything he loves--again. Lord John is in possession of explosive documents that expose a damning case of corruption against a British officer. But they also hint at a more insidious danger. Soon Lord John and Jamie are unwilling companions on the road to Ireland, a country whose dark castles hold dreadful secrets, and whose bogs hide the bones of the dead.
